The Queen Mother of the West is one of the oldest mythological motifs in China. Through the successive rewriting of pre-Qin classics, Taoist beliefs, traditional operas and films, her original image has been gradually obscured by the secularized image of "Empress Wangmu". Breaking away from the stereotyped images of later generations, the online novel The Lost Tomb: The City of Snakes traces back to primitive sources such as The Classic of Mountains and Seas and The Biography of King Mu, and completes a contemporary reconstruction of the myth of the Queen Mother of the West from three dimensions: tribe setting, totem symbols and historical narrative, which has been widely disseminated and re-created through digital platforms. From the perspective of folk literature, and based on the history of the motif evolution of the myth, this paper systematically analyzes the reconstruction mechanism, theoretical logic, communication ecology and audience reception of the novel by means of close reading, mythological theory and digital fieldwork, demonstrating its value as a typical case of the "creative transformation and innovative development" of traditional myths, so as to provide a reference for the living inheritance of Chinese folk literature.
