This paper aims to conduct an in‑depth exploration of the profound and enduring influence exerted by Laozi (also known as Tao Te Ching), a classic ancient Chinese text, upon Chinese culture. Through a systematic analysis of the profound philosophical ideas contained in Laozi, this paper seeks to reveal how these thoughts have gradually shaped and impacted China’s cultural characteristics, social structures and political concepts over the course of history. It begins with a detailed introduction to Laozi, the legendary thinker and author of the text, as well as the historical context of his era, offering readers a macro perspective for understanding his philosophy. It further dissects the core philosophical concepts in Laozi, such as the mystery of the Dao, the cultivation of De, and the political wisdom of governing by non‑action. These notions together form the cornerstone of Laozi’s philosophy.
