Greek mythology constitutes a vital treasure trove for researching the evolution of ancient Greek ideology and culture, through which people can perceive the Greeks’ modes of cognition and spirit of rationality. Zeus, a pivotal deity in the myths, bears an amorous and philandering persona that seemingly creates a disconnect with the rational consciousness embedded within Greek mythology. Accordingly, this paper analyzes the formative factors behind Zeus’s libertine image from four perspectives: the rise of patriarchal society, the demand for labor, the impacts of ethnic integration, and the driving force of bloodline ideology, and explores the interconnections between Greek mythology and ancient Greek social culture. The study concludes that Zeus’s promiscuous image is essentially a reflection of the ancient Greek people’s mindset and their society, testifying that the Greeks engaged in profound rational contemplation over the relationships and narratives of their gods.
