严复不仅为中国近代思想提供了相当的反思性思考，其晚年社会思想更是当今中国现代性事业的重要参照。本文认为严复毕生的学术追求在于建立一种文化主体间性的反思路径，试图从本土文化的立场出发，进一步找到中国政治、社会和文化的自我转型的方向。严复立足于中国的政治和社会面临的实际问题，致力于推动中华民族优秀传统文化的创造性转化。严复晚年关于传统中国文化的省思，特别是他对天人观念的重新思考、以及从传统思想资源内部来发掘自由和民主的精神价值，可谓是真正开启了对文化现代性的反思。

Yan Fu not only provided a considerable amount of reflective thinking for modern Chinese thought, but also an important reference for the cause of modernity in China today. This paper argues that Yan Fu's lifelong academic pursuit is to establish a reflective path of cultural intersubjectivity, and to try to further find the direction of China's political, social, and cultural self-transformation from the standpoint of local culture. Based on the practical problems faced by China's politics and society, Yan Fu is committed to promoting the creative transformation of the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation. Yan Fu's reflections on traditional Chinese culture in his later years, especially his rethinking of the concept of heaven and man, and the exploration of the spiritual values of freedom and democracy from within the resources of traditional thought, can be said to have truly opened up a reflection on cultural modernity.
