《德意志意识形态》被公认为是第一次系统论述历史唯物主义的著作，这部著作中论述的历史唯物主义基本原理和重要思想有:从事实践活动的人是历史唯物主义的出发点，分工在社会历史发展中的作用，生产力与生产关系、经济基础与上层建筑的辩证关系原理。对这些历史唯物主义基本原理和重要思想的阐释和解读有助于我们理解和把握历史唯物主义的科学体系以及马克思主义哲学的发展进程有很大的帮助。

“German Ideology”is recognized as the first systematic study of historical materialism. The basic principles and important ideas of historical materialism discussed in this work are: those engaged in practical activities are the starting point of historical materialism.
