东西方核心价值观存在明显差异。近代以来，中国社会核心价值体系经历了三次解体和重构过程。第一次是西方化的过程，第二次是毛泽东化的过程，第三次是再一次西方化的过程。当今社会核心价值体系解体主要表现为政治价值体系的解体。重建社会核心价值体系，回避不了的问题：一是马克思主义、毛泽东思想的继承问题；二是中国传统社会核心价值观的地位问题；三是西方社会核心价值观念普适性问题。
