Stone tools from the Korean Bronze Age have long been overlooked by scholars, who viewed them as ordinary tools of low technical sophistication. Drawing on the latest research by scholars such as Sun Jun-ho and Hwang Chang-han, this article reexamines Bronze Age stone tools from three dimensions: technology, function, and social networks. The study reveals that manufacturing techniques—represented by the bipolar method—were highly efficient and standardized. As the Songjuk-ri culture spread, these techniques became increasingly widespread, significantly enhancing the mass production efficiency of agricultural tools such as stone arrowheads and stone swords. Based on multiple lines of evidence—including micro-scratch analysis, experimental archaeology, and context of discovery—the study demonstrates that stone tools served diverse functions and evolved dynamically in response to social needs, with some artifacts transforming from utilitarian tools into symbols of social status; While stone tool raw materials were primarily sourced locally, specific artifacts—such as chert swords—circulated across regions, reflecting the embryonic form of Bronze Age exchange networks. The study also highlights methodological pitfalls, including the limitations of experimental archaeology, misinterpretations of scientific data, and isolated research, thereby providing a direction for future in-depth exploration.
