In recent years, an increasing number of scholars have turned their research focus to "discourse markers," a linguistic phenomenon applied in both spoken interaction and written discourse. Due to its two broad usages, "in other words" can function either as a predicate phrase serving as the predicate component or as a discourse marker. This paper discusses the discourse marker "in other words," analyzing it from structural, semantic, and pragmatic perspectives.
