The phenomenon of "lying flat" has become a passive choice, whether temporary or prolonged, for contemporary youth facing numerous highly challenging real-world pressures. The "lying flat" phenomenon primarily stems from economic transformation and competitive pressures, uneven distribution of social resources, the solidification of social hierarchies, and the influence of consumerist ideologies. According to Marx's theory of alienation, the root cause of the "lying flat" phenomenon lies in the existence of alienated labor—specifically, alienated labor under the context of capitalist private ownership is the fundamental reason for the emergence of "lying flat." In today's society, due to the extensive expansion of capital, the alienation of labor persists, and the immense competitive pressure it generates in the workplace has become a significant reason why contemporary youth, confronted with labor dilemmas, choose to "lie flat." Therefore, the state, society, and individuals should collaborate across multiple dimensions to provide effective solutions for this transitional phenomenon of "lying flat."
