"The Peony Pavilion" is one of the most famous works of the Ming Dynasty playwright Tang Xianzu. It extols the "ultimate love" that "one can live for love and die for love", which is most prominently embodied in the character of Du Liniang in the play. The book takes the female character Du Liniang as the main focus, narrating her extraordinary and unique love story, and showcasing her bravery and determination in pursuing love. This paper takes the character of Du Liniang as an example to analyze the individuality and sociality in her female consciousness, and then compares her with other traditional female characters in dramas to deeply explain the formation reasons and manifestations of Du Liniang's female consciousness. It further analyzes the cultural implications contained in her image and the female self-awareness, elaborating from multiple perspectives to grasp the cultural connotations of the character image and describe its value in contemporary society, and to appreciate the rich emotions and artistic value of the characters in the book.
