20世纪80年代以前，我国东北海防研究鲜为学界关注。80年代以来，国内学者聚焦于列强的海上入侵、海防斗争、海防形势等海防事件，海防要塞的修筑，晚清八旗水师、民国东北海军、海军院校的创建等内容，在近现代东北海防史研究方面取得了众多成果，但不足之处也很显著。在今后的研究中，应加大对民国以降东北海防的研究力度，重视东北海防武装力量领导、指挥体制等制度层面的研究，注重对东北海防部署、海防武器装备和设施、海防人才培养、海防后备力量动员、海防信息传递、海防经济、海防意识、海防教育等方面的研究。

Before the 1980s, the study on the history of coastal defense in northeast China was rarely paid attention by the academic community. Since the 1980s, domestic scholars have made many achievements in the study of the history of coastal defense in modern times, but the deficiencies are also obvious, focusing on the maritime invasion, the struggle for coastal defense, the construction of coastal defense forts, the eight flags of the late Qing Dynasty, the Northeast Navy of the Republic of China, and the establishment of naval academies. In the future research, we should strengthen the research on the northeast coast defense of the Republic of China, pay attention to the leadership and command system of the northeast coast defense armed forces, pay attention to the northeast coast defense deployment, coastal defense weapons and equipment and facilities, coastal defense personnel training, coastal defense reserve force mobilization, coastal defense information transmission, coastal defense economy, coastal defense awareness, and coastal defense education.
