受早期基督教艺术的影响，拜占庭绘画中的人物大多是被赋予神性色彩的皇宫贵族或真正的神。拜占庭时代的艺术是以宗教神学为主导的，人的地位已经一落千丈。

Influenced by the early Christian art, most of the figures in the painting of Byzantium are royal nobles which are endowed with divine character or the real immortal. The art of Byzantium is dominated by religious theology, and the status of human beings in art of Byzantium declines dramatically.
