Huayao ethnic group is a filiation of Yao ethnic minority, which lives mainly in Tiger-shaped Mountain, Longhui County, Hunan Province. During their long migration, the Huayao ethnic group engendered a degree of awe to the soil, which was the base of their survival. Coupled with the Han culture influence along migration routes, the unique soil worship and folk culture in Huayao area had been formed as a result of these factors. From the field study, it showed that the soil worship in Huayao ethnic group had been obviously influenced by the Han culture, which included the places of sacrifice, types of land gods, sacrificial ceremony and taboos. As a result of this, the soil worship in Huayao ethnic group had become utilitarianism. In addition, the Wuwa folk song, one of the characteristic folk arts in Huayao ethnic group, also reflect the culture of soil worship.
