As a special syntactic item, classifiers has attracted much attention in modern linguistics. This paper explores the semantic properties and syntactic characteristics of Chinese classifiers under the framework of feature-checking. In Chinese, classifiers belong to the functional category which individuate nominal items. They differ from the plural marker ‘-men’ as well as definiteness markers. The feature-checking theory provides a reasonable explanation to the distribution and interpretation of classifier phrases, and as well gives motivation to the movement of classifiers and nouns. The interaction between classifiers and the plural marker ‘-men’ and definitenss markers can also be illustrated by feature checking.
