英语世界的《孟子》研究目前还有许多空白点，在广泛收集大量一手资料的基础上，进行全面系统的文献综述、对有特色的代表性译本进行分析，对多译本的编排与阐释、译者翻译策略选取的历史文化动因等方面进行详尽的阐释，并提供译者、译著、中英文对照表等相关文献学资料。国内《孟子》研究与英语世界《孟子》研究在材料取舍、术语解读、价值取向等问题意识上所呈现出来的异同具有一定的学术价值，但学界对此的基础研究不多，从译本的细读中发掘他文明中的《孟子》阐释，通过描述、分析、挖掘并最终利用西方学者在《孟子》研究上所表现的不同视角和方法

Through an overall review of Mencius’ thoughts received in the English-speaking world, I found out that the diversity and openness of the interpretation of its English translation is the charm of Mencius translations. For thousands of years, Mencius has been one of the inevitable and priority choices for English translation in the cultural communication between China and western countries. For its enduring and academic characteristics, Mencius has been retranslated over and over again in different times, still serving as the social and the cultural communication between China and the western world today. The interpretation and translating of Mencius is an inter-textual process for multiple translation versions in different times, languages, cultures and poetics. The process has been greatly influenced by misinterpretation, variation, filter, conflict, and cultural minimalism, the study of the Mencius’ text in the English-speaking world is actually a process of continuously producing and enriching new values, new meanings, and new perspectives.
