如果说《大公报》的正刊是一架灵敏的照相机，拍摄着社会中的政治经济文化形态，那么它的副刊可谓是纯文学的一片芳草之地了。以“文学保姆”自诩的萧乾一直拥有这样一个理想：让手中所办的副刊成为千千万万个文学青年自己的园地。 正是基于这样的理想，《大公报》的文艺副刊于20世纪30年代在沈从文、杨振声以及萧乾等众多优秀编辑的主持下，变成了北方文坛的重要阵地，在这里诞生了许许多多文学史上经久不衰的优秀作品，在这里催生了许许多多文坛上的文学巨匠，这里可谓是文学的芳草之地啊！
